As of the 2000 U.S. census, Black Hawk, Colorado was the least populous city in Colorado with a population of only 118. The small city is a historic mining settlement founded in 1859 during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush, which in recent years has been revived due to casino gambling. Black Hawk is where Linda Tavara introduces herself to Daniel Linderman for the first time.

Graphic Novel:War Buddies, Part 7

Daniel Linderman is dropped off with his duffel bag at gas station/diner with a "Drivers Wanted" sign in the window. He drives a truck, makes a delivery, and returns to the station to have a drink. The bartender convinces him to have something to eat with his drink. After eating, Daniel waits outside the station when Linda Tavara drives up and introduces herself. After chatting with him, she hands him a note to meet her that night at site #09 of the Black Hawk Campgrounds.

Daniel goes to her campsite and recounts his experiences of the war to her, and they spend the night together. On a hike the next morning, they come across a wounded deer. Daniel decides to show Linda whom he is, and heals it. Linda then tries to absorb Daniel's ability, but he quickly subdues her and burns her remains. Afterwards, Daniel hitches a ride in a semi-trailer truck and tells the driver to take him as far away as possible.
