Gabriel Gray alias Sylar (nombre que adoptó de la marca de su reloj) era un relojero comun y corriente quien soñaba con ser especial. Chandra Suresh se presentó ante el, identificándolo como "Paciente Cero" en su investigación y revelandole la existencia de los humanos evolucionados. Al descubrir como funcionan las habilidades y cómo obtener más, Sylar se convirtió en un asesino en serie, cuyos objetivos siempre son personas con habilidades, a quienes les saca el cerebro para obtener sus habilidades. Aunque Sylar comenzó el camino del arrepentimiento luego de que Angela Petrelli le afirmara que ella es su madre biológica, cuando descubrió que esto era mentira sucumbió ante "el hambre" y volvió a ser el mismo asesino de antes.

Acerca de

Nacido como Gabriel Gray, el hijo del relojero siempre soñó con cosas grandes, con ser "especial". Adquiriendo el nombre de "Sylar" se convierte en un asesino en serie, cuyo objetivo son los humanos desarrollados con habilidades, aunque no tiene reparo en asesinar también a quien se interponga en su camino. Tiene el poder de aptitud intuitiva, por lo que Sylar es capaz de ver como funcionan las cosas y lo emplea para el robo de los poderes de sus vítimas. Además, Sylar esta considerado como un asesino en serie para el FBI. Las victimas de Sylar Son normalmente vistas con la cabeza cortada horizontalmente a modo de abrelatas y en las cuales el cerebro ha sido extraído. Otras víctimas son fijadas a la pared por telequinesis, criogenizadas, o golpeadas. Historia del personaje

Primera Temporada

Mohinder Suresh descubre que Sylar estaba involucrado en la investigación de su padre, y que probablemente su padre murió cuando Chandra decidió que no había nada más que hacer con Sylar. Mientras tanto, Sylar continúa su búsqueda para conseguir tantos poderes como le sea posible --asesina a los Walker en su propia casa, después mata a Charlie Andrews en su trabajo. En la fiesta de bienvenida del instituto Union Wells High School, Sylar falla al coger el poder de Claire Bennet cuando Peter Petrelli interviene. En su lugar, es capturado por la Compañía y temporalmente encarcelado en Primatech Paper Co. hasta que escapa, matando a Eden McCain y otros por el camino.

Seis meses antes, Chandra Suresh conoce a Gabriel Gray y le ayuda a descubrir su potencial diciéndolo sobre su búsqueda. Gabriel mata a Brian Davis y toma su poder de telequinesis. En el presente, Sylar toma el poder de licuefacción de Zane Taylor haciéndose pasar por Mohinder Suresh. Entonces le muestra su poder a Mohinder para ganarse su ayuda. Mohinder descubre la identidad de Sylar, pero no antes que Sylar mate a Dale Smither y toma el poder de super audición. Mohinder intenta sedarlo y dispararle , pero falla.

Después de ver una explosión en una visión que cree que él causa, visita a su madre. Sylar mata a Ted Sprague y toma su habilidad de producir radiación. Entonces se enfrenta a Peter Petrelli, Matt Parkman, Niki Sanders and Hiro Nakamura en la Plaza Kirby. Sylar despierta en la playa con una pelirroja, que le exlica que lo rescató de Kirby Plaza y que la gente para la que trabaja le curó las heridas. Sylar intenta usar sus poderes, pero descubre que no puede. Sylar la mata e intenta tomar su poder, pero no puede usarlo. Entonces él abandona el edificio por primera vez y descubre que está en el medio de una jungla mexicana. Es eventualmente encontrado en el medio del camino por Derek, Maya, y Alejandro. Ellos lo suben al auto, y él dice a Maya y Alejandro que conoce a Chandra Suresh.

Luego de matar a Derek, Sylar descubre que Maya y Alejandro son especiales. Los ayuda a pasar a Estados Unidos para llevarlos con el Dr. Suresh. Cuando finalmente llegan a la frontera, estan rodeados por gente de la Patrulla Fronteriza Ciudadana. Maya se enoja y usa su habilidad, causando que los hombres caigan. Sylar retiene a Alejandro de que use su habilidad, presumiblemente matando a los hombres mientras manejaban lejos del lugar. Sylar y Alejandro pelean, y sabiendo que Alejandro no entiende el inglés, le dice que la única razón por la que está ayudando a los mellizos es para que cuando sus poderes regresen el pueda matarlos y robar sus poderes. Sylar le enseña a Maya cómo controlar su poder, y la convence de que Alejandro la culpa por la muerte de su esposa. Cuando Alejandro informa a Maya que Sylar mató a su propia madre, Maya y Sylar deciden ir a New York sin Alejandro a buscar al Dr. Suresh. Más tarde, Sylar es atacado por Alejandro y acaba matándolo con un cuchillo. Maya aparece sin saber que recién había matado a su hermano, y le dice a Sylar que tenía razón en todo y le agradece la ayuda brindada. Ellos se besan mientras Sylar cierra la puerta tras de sí escondiendo el hermano muerto de ella. Más tarde, Sylar llama a Mohinder de su apartamento. Mientras encuentra a Molly durmiendo, le dice a Mohinder que trajo a Maya para hablar con el doctor.

Tras regresar a su hogar, Mohinder es saludado por Sylar y presentado a Maya, quien necesita la ayuda del doctor. Mohinder le dice a Maya que Sylar es un asesino, pero ella admite que también mató gente, y describe su habilidad a Mohinder. Sylar dice a Mohinder que él también necesita ayuda. Abrió la computadora portátil de Mohinder y encontro un trabajo de laboratorio sobre un virus que quita las habilidades de la gente. Quiere que Mohinder lo ayude a curar dicho virus, dado que la sangre de Mohinder, mezclada con la de cierta animadora, podrían curar el virus. Mohinder rápidamente accede a ayudar a Sylar, y ambos, junto con Maya y Molly van al laboratorio del doctor. Mohinder toma una muestra de la sangre de Sylar, y descubre que Sylar tiene la misma cepa del virus que Niki tuvo, diciéndole que la Compañía se lo inyectó también. Sylar dice a Mohinder que pruebe la cura en Maya, quien resuló herida por Sylar. Mohinder inyecta a Maya, causando que su herida sanara y la bala fuera expulsada de su cuerpo. Mientras Sylar se prepara para su inyección, Elle llega y dispara cargas eléctricas a Sylar. Él rápidamente toma el paquete medicinal y huye de ella, siendo golpeado por detrás y cayendo contra un vidrio. Sylar se sienta contra un edificio con el antídoto del virus. Se lo inyecta y las heridas de haber caído a través del vidrio comienzan a sanar. Extiende su brazo hacia una lata al otro lado del callejón y logra moverla desde su lugar.

La Segunda Venida

Sylar va a la casa de Bennet en Costa Verde. Él sorprende a Claire, pero ella lo deja inconciente con un golpe de un trofeo de animadora. Ella intenta correr pero Sylar cierra telekineticamente la casa. Sylar comienza a aterrorizarla mientras ella se pone a cubierto en un closet. Él encuentra una caja de los archivos de Noah y se alegra de tener una "lista de compras" de habilidades, dado que perdió todos sus poderes (salvo el suyo). Mientras Sylar habla en voz alta dándole la espalda, Claire lo apuñala a través del pecho. Ella corre a la puerta del frente pero él la atrapa contra la pared. El Efecto Mariposa

Mientras Sylar abandona la residencia de los Bennet, Bianca Karina y Gael Cruz intentan detenerlo, solo para ser tirados lejos y asesinados.

Luego, en el Nivel 5 de Primatech Research, Sylar tira a Elle contra la ventana de observación de la celda de Noah luego de que ella alertara a Noah de la presencia de Sylar. Sylar permite que Noah le dispare, pero cura sus heridas y tira violentamente a Noah contra el techo y el suelo. Peter Petrelli, atrapado en el cuerpo de Jesse Murphy, maldice desde su celda mientras Sylar arrastra a Elle hacie ael y la da vuelta, de modo que quede boca arriba. Novela Gráfica:Sueños Hasta la Muerte

Luego de adquirir la habilidad de Claire, Sylar es comfrontado por los agentes de la Compañía Bianca Karina y Gael Cruz. Luego de ser disparado con pistolas eléctricas, procede a hacer volar a ambos agentes lejos de él. Bianca se las arregla para sacar su arma y disparar un par de rondas a Sylar, pero a él no lo afectan debido a que obtuvo la habilidad de curarse a si mismo. Entonces pregunta cuál de ellos es especial y Gael dice que él es. Sylar responde matando a Bianca, y luego abriendo la cabeza de Gael. Dándose cuenta que Gael mintió, Sylar tira a Gael al suelo junto a Bianca y se aleja manejando el auto de ellos.

Uno de Nosotros, Uno de Ellos

Luego de la revelación de que Angela era la madre de Sylar, ella llama a Bridget Bailey y explica su poder. Ella dice que Bridget está allí para alimentar a Sylar. Angela abandona la celda, dejando a Bridget y Sylar solos, y los gritos de la chica pueden oírse desde el pasillo junto con el sonido de sus huesos siendo cortados.

Más tarde, Noah llega al Nivel 5, llamado para ayudar a recapturar a los que se escaparon de allí. Angela le presenta a su nuevo compañero, que no es otro que Sylar.

Sylar y Noah van a un banco, que está siendo atracado por cuatro prófugos del Nivel 5. Noah le dice a Sylar que se mantenga fuera de su camino, pero Sylar protesta que eso es una sociedad con un solo lado. Antes de que Noah pueda hablar con la policía, Sylar comienza a decirles que muevan su perímetro hacia atrás. Entonces él le pide un café para él y para Noah a un policía. Noah está impresionado, y le dice que usará su "lengua de plata" para asegurarse de que los rehenes no le digan a la prensa lo que vieron, y que se mantengan alejados del banco. Más tarde, Noah se mete en problemas en el banco, pero Sylar entra y ayuda a Noah usando su telekinesis para detener a Knox y ahogar a Jesse. Flint se prepara para quemar a Sylar, pero Noah lo intercepta y le dispara. Luego de que Noah sale del banco con algunos de los prófugos, Sylar cierra el edificio, permite que Knox se escape, y abre la cabeza de Jesse, diciéndole a Noah que él es un monstruo.

Ambos Sylar y Noah encierran al único prófugo del Nivel 5 que queda, Flint. Entonces Angela aparece con la topa de prisión de Sylar, y él le dice "Tal vez tú estabas equivocada acerca de mi." Angela sólo contesta con una sonrisa y dice "Verémos", mientras Sylar vuelve a entrar a su celda.

Yo Soy la Muerte

Peter Petrelli se teletransporta a la celda de Sylar e inmediatamente intenta atacarlo. Peter revela que viajó al futuro y aprendió a acceder a la habilidad de Sylar. Sylar dice que Peter ahora tiene el hambre, pero Peter responde que nunca se permitirá convertirse en algo como Sylar. Sylar muestra una sonrisa burlona y asegura que Peter ya es como él.

Ángeles y Monstruos

Enojado, Peter Petrelli rompe el cuello de Sylar, pero este se regenera rápidamente. Él salta y tira a Peter contra una pared justo a tiempo para salvar la vide de Angela. Ella le asegura a Sylar se encargará de que Peter esté bien. Noah se acerca a Sylar, pidiéndole su ayuda para capturar un nuevo objetivo, Stephen Canfield.

Sylar y Noah arrivan a la casa de los Canfield, y Stephen crea un vortex. Sylar, Noah, y Claire se agarran a partes de la casa para evitar ser tragados por él. Claire se desliza, pero Sylar la salva, tomando su mano. Cuando el vortex finalmente se cierra, Sylar descubre que Canfield escapó, mientras que Claire está enojada con su padre por trabajar con él, luego de lo que le hizo a ella. Sylar admite que cuando toco su mano, él pudo sentir cuánto dolor y sufrimiento le causó, e intenta disculparse. Noah le dice a Sylar que nunca le hable a su hija. Luego, en el Carrusel de Griffith Park, Claire y Noah se acercan a Canfield, mientras Sylar espera en el auto. Sylar observa mientras Canfield rehusa el pedido de Noah de que con su habilidad mate a Sylar. Más tarde, en el auto, Sylar llama a Noah un usuario que "no ve la humanidad en los humanos evolucionados".

Muriendo por la Luz

Daphne entra a la celda de Sylar e intenta reclutarlo para la Compañía Pinehearst, diciéndo que Primatech quería transformarlo en algo que él no es, mientras que Pinehearst lo quiere por lo que es -- un asesino. Él usa sus poderes telekinéticos para sostenerla contra la puerta de la celda, pero ella escapa con Flint luego de dejar una tarjeta de la compañía con Sylar. Éste libera a Peter de su celda, y le dice que deben encontrar a la persona que paralizó a su madre. Sylar le pide a Peter que lea la mente de Angela. La única cosa que Peter logra extraer de su mente es el símbolo de Investigaciones Pinehearst. Mientras los dos hermanos se preparan para partir, Sylar le dice a Peter que no lo dejará salir en un estado tan debilitado como el suyo. Ambos pelean, terminando con Peter diciéndole a Sylar que él es débil y Peter sabe lo que es tener todo ese poder. Peter deja a Sylar en coma en una celda del Nivel 5.

Eris Quod Sum

Subconcientemente, Sylar es visitado por su madre Angela en su estado de coma inducido en el Nivel 5. En su sueño, le dicen que sus poderes no estan completamente suprimidos por la droga bajo cuyos efectos está. Angela le cuenta entonces a Sylar que necesita liberar a su hermano Peter de las garras de la compañía de Investigaciones Pinehearst. Sylar rápidamente obedece las órdenes de su madre y sale de la celda, deteniéndose en el cuerpo en coma de la propia Angela para hacerle saber que salvará a Peter.

Ya en Pinehearst, Sylar rápidamente golpea a Mohinder y al Dr. Livitz (pegando a Livitz contra una pared y matándolo) justo antes de que inyecten a Peter. Sylar libera a Peter, diciendo que "Es lo que hacen los hermanos". Momentos después, Sylar noqueado por Mohinder, que es detenido por Arthur quien explica que Sylar es también uno de sus hijos. Mantenido en la oficina de Arthur por su padre, Sylar se entera por su padre que Angela le temía luego de su nacimiento y que intentó ahogarlo. El dice que no lo amaba, y que debería quedarse con él.

Luego de que Peter intentara salvar a Sylar, Sylar arroja a su hermano desde la ventana de un séptimo piso del edificio. De todos modos, Sylar usa también su telekinesis para ralentizar la caída de Peter, previniendo su muerte. Arthur muestra discretamente a Sylar que sabe que lo salvó, pero Sylar no admite que él lo había hecho.

Novela Gráfica:Puntos de Vista

En la Galería de la Compañía, Sylar observa una multitud de portarretratos de agentes que murieron en sus manos. Un superior de Sylar se aproxima a él, murmura su nombre por lo bajo, y entonces le escupe en la cara.

Rompiendo las reglas, Sylar va más tarde en una misión solitaria. Él va a Chicago y asecha el apartamento de Rachel St. John. Pronto, descubre que su novio Dennis, que también es un prófugo del Nivel 5, se esconde allí. Decide hacerce cargo de la situación.

Sylar ingresa al apartamento y encuentra a Rachel suplicando por ayuda. Repentinamente, Rachel cae inconciente a causa de un gas verde. Entonces él es confrontado por Dennis y sus compañeros de escape, Tina Ramierez y Michael Fitzgerald. Los tres saben quién es y lo respetan, y le agradecen por haberlos sacado del Nivel 5. Ellos le preguntan entonces si está allí para unírseles, a lo que Sylar responde "No."

Sylar mata a Dennis, y sostiene a los otros dos utilizando su telekinesis, cerrando sus gargantas. Repentinamente, Rachel le ruega a Sylar que no los mate.

Luego, el superior de Sylar llega con un equipo para llevarse a Tina y Michael de vuelta al Nivel 5. El Haitiano está allí para limpiar la mente de Rachel, lo que hace que Sylar piense para sí mismo que la única persona que pensó que él era un heroe ni siquiera lo recordaría.

Villanos

En el estado precognitivo de ensueño de Hiro, él ve a Gabriel Gray en el año 2006. Gabriel se siente tan culpable por haber matado a Brian Davis que intenta suicidarse ahorcado, pero es rescatado por la llegada a tiempo de Elle, que fue enviada a investigarlo. Elle, haciéndose pasar por una clienta, se gana su confianza apelando a su necesidad de ser especial para alguien y cocinándole un pastel de durazno. Luego de encontrarse con Gabriel un par de veces más, Elle pierde la meta de su misión porque comienza a simpatizarle. Desilusionada, Elle regresa a HRG para intentar disuadirlo de continuar la misión, sólo para ser severamente amenazada por La Compañía. A pesar de las órdenes que tenía, ella sigue siendo amiga de Gabriel e invita a Trevor, otro humano evolucionado, al apartamento para intentar hacer que Gabriel mate nuevamente. Luego de que Trevor demostrara su habilitdad, Gabriel tiene suficiente y lo ataca. Elle intenta detenerlo mediante un shock eléctrico, pero él la tira a través de la habitación y le dice que se vaya. Luego de la partida de Elle, Gabriel procede a robar la habilidad de Trevor, mientras HRG observa mediante vigilancia remota.

Está Viniendo

Mientras que están en el edificio de Pinehearst, Arthur le dice a Sylar que sabe que salvó a Peter porque tiene empatía. Arthur lo envía entonces a un cuarti oscuro donde Elle está encadenada. Elle comienza a electrocutarlo sin piedad, con voltajes cada vez más devastadores. Luego de varios shocks exitosos y muy fuertes, la ropa de Sylar se quema. Elle pronto queda exhausta y ruega a Sylar que la mate. Sylar levanta su mano, pero solo para liberarla de sus ataduras. Luego de perdonar a Elle y de ayudarla a que se perdone a sí misma, él comienza a exhibir rayos también. Ella lo ayuda a dominar su nuevo poder, tocándolo cerca del brazo y el pecho. Más tarde, él y Elle son liberados y van a la oficina de Arthur a observarlo dibujar el eclipse.

El Eclipse, Parte 1

Sylar está en una habitación en Pinehearst, practicanto el poder de Elle. Elle entra y Sylar menciona que debe ponerse a prueba a sí mismo. Elle le pregunta que ante quién, pero él no contesta. Arthur llega para decirle a Sylar que encuentre a Claire. Elle va con él. Viajan a LAX y entran a Hotspur Car Rental, donde Elle confronta a Sylar sobre ser quien es. Él riñe con el vendedor, y entonces Elle y Sylar manejan al hogar de los Canfield. Ellos atacan a Claire y a Noah. El Eclipse, Parte 2

Sylar y Elle discuten su inverosímil relación luego de hacer el amor en el hogar de los Canfield, pero son interrumpidos por una ronda de balas de un iracundo Noah, que le dispara a Elle en la pierna. Sylar la arrastra lejos, y se escondan en un callejón mientras Noah continua buscándolos. Sylar venda la herida de Elle en la sección médica de una droguería, y luego la lleva al almacén de la tienda mientras Noah se les acerca siguiendo el rastro de sangre de Elle. Sylar encierra a Elle en el ascensor y la envía a un piso más bajo, mientras Noah llega y lo ataca. luego de una breve pelea, Noah corta la garganta de Sylar con un cúter, dejándolo para que se desangra hasta morir mientras Elle mira. Cuando Noah regresa a su hogar, descubre que Claire había muerto por sus heridas de más temprano, pero que se regeneró cuando su poder regresó al final del eclipse, y se da cuenta que Sylar también podría haber revivido. Sylar y Elle entran a la casa de los Bennet, y Sylar pega a Noah a la pared con su telekinesis. Noah le dice que Arthur y Angela Petrelli no son sus padres, y que ambos lo están manipulando. Dual

Sylar mata a todos los guardias de las instalaciones de Primatech, y encierra a Noah, Meredith, Claire, y Angela en el edificio al cerrar el sistema de seguridad. De todos modos (debido a su habilidad regenerativa), no le afecta y el se da vuelta para encontrar un equipo de soldados que intentan capturarlo. Confianza y Sangre

Sylar intenta sacarle información de su padre a Daniel Simmons torturando a Mary Campbell y a su hijo Luke. Luke salva a su madre, mostrándole a Sylar su habilidad. Impresionado, Sylar lo aparta y hace que le muestre mejor. Mientras Sylar le hace burlas a Mary sobre Luke, el agente Simmons se libera y saca un arma. Luke empuja a Sylar a un lado instintivamente y utiliza su habilidad sobre Simmons, haciendo que su sangre hierva y se le escape como agua. Con la muerte de la única fuente que tenía, Sylar se va pero Luke lo persigue y le ruega que lo lleve consigo. Sylar se niega hasta que Luke dice que sabe dónde está su padre. Expuesto

Sylar y Luke continúan su viaje, utilizando la computadora portátil robada para comprobar que no son perseguidos por ningún agente. Luke le pregunta a Sylar por qué está tan deseoso de encontrar a su padre, comentando que los padres apestan. Sylar detiene repentinamente el auto en una cantina abandonada, y rompe los paneles de la puerta del lugar. Dándose cuenta de que ya estuvo allí antes, Sylar recuerda haber ido a esa cantina con su padre en 1980, y perder un auto de juguete en una separación de madera del lugar. Al arrancar los paneles de madera en el presente, descubre que el autito aún estaba allí, comprobando que sus recuerdos son reales.

Sylar now remembers that his father did something terrible in that place, something that he had forgotten. Luke suggests it's good not to remember the bad things in your childhood, but Sylar disagrees, saying it eats away at your soul. He then has another flashback, this time of his father taking him over to a table where a man and a woman are sitting. They give Samson a wad of banknotes and Samson leaves. The young Sylar runs out into the parking lot, where he sees his father arguing with his mother in a car. Samson slices her head open and pushes her body out of the car while the boy watches in horror.

As Sylar broods, Luke starts to get restless, saying he didn't know about the murder and had been trying to warn Sylar that his dad was a jerk, but Sylar gets angry, claiming that Luke's stories about Samson had been deliberately misleading. He throws Luke against a wall, saying that Luke has been using him to escape his old life, but it's impossible to outrun pain. He then drops Luke on the floor without killing him, and tells him to go home to his mother. When Luke asks where he is going, Sylar says he's going to find his father alone, and that he wants him to die.

Shades of Gray

Sylar arrives at a trailer in the woods, where he finds his father Samson. Sylar announces he's going to kill him, but Samson turns around, attached to a respirator, and tells him to go ahead as he's dying of cancer anyway.

Sylar discovers that his father has an ability when he uses sedation to prevent a rabbit from escaping. His father states that he once had many abilities, although he has forgotten most of them now, and knows that Sylar possesses the same skill. Sylar asks why Samson killed his mother and abandoned him, but Samson says he doesn't remember, because it didn't matter to him. Samson explains how terrible it is to have led an unfulfilled life, and says that Sylar has always chosen easy targets that are not a challenge to him.

Sylar helps his father stuff the rabbit, until he cuts his hand with a knife and Samson watches in amazement as the cut heals. Sylar explains that he took this ability from a cheerleader. Distracting Sylar's attention for a moment, Samson uses telekinesis to pin him to the wall with arrows, then sedates him. Sylar wakes up to find his father trying to cut open his head; his hunger has been reawakened and with his health restored, he says he would use his abilities to take real power. Sylar successfully uses telekinesis to disarm and restrain his father, and comments that as a hunter, he should have known he was "playing possum". He nearly strangles him with his oxygen tubes, but eventually leaves Samson to die in pain from his disease, taking the stuffed rabbit and saying he now knows what he has to do.

Sylar awaits Danko within his apartment, leaving the stuffed rabbit in clear view for Danko to find.

Cold Snap

Danko goes in his bathroom to shave. He is interrupted by an alarm telling him the front door has been opened. He searches his apartment and finds Eric Doyle wrapped up, with a bow tie and card strapped to him like a present, from Sylar.

Into Asylum

Danko goes to in his car and finds Sylar in the backseat. After discussing the recent "gifts" that he left for Danko, Sylar offers to help Danko capture people with abilities. Reaching for his gun, Danko turns to find Sylar has vanished. (He is, in fact, enjoying the rain on a nearby rooftop.)

After the death of three agents in the hunt for a fugitive with unknown abilities, Danko is greeted in his office by the lone surviving agent of the mission. In the office are a box and a cellphone; the phone rings and it is Sylar, who tells Danko that he has found the corpse of the real Agent Jenkins. In the box is Jenkins's head, delivered to the office by a disguised Sylar. The living Agent Jenkins is really Martin, who is a shape shifter. After a failed pursuit of the fugitive, Danko finds Sylar at Martin's home. Danko realizes that Sylar is keen to acquire Martin's ability, which appeals to his love of disguises and his desire to be someone else. Though Danko threatens to kill him, Sylar suggests that Danko cannot catch Martin without his help, so the two come to an uneasy truce.

Deducing Martin to be at a nightclub, the two arrive to find the shape shifter in Danko's form, picking up women; to which Sylar remarks that Martin is a better Danko than Danko himself. Martin notices the two and runs. The two split up and look for Martin, but lose him and agree to leave. As they leave, Sylar pulls out a gun to shoot Danko, who beats him to the trigger and shoots Sylar in the stomach: it is actually Martin in the form of Sylar. The real Sylar arrives and Danko tells him that he can still take Martin's ability since Martin is still alive, though Danko asks him not to cut open his head.

The next morning outside the nightclub, Danko smugly presents to Noah "Sylar's" dead body, with a metal blade embedded in its brain. A female medic asks Noah if something is wrong as he observes his supposedly vanquished foe. Returning to Danko's car, the medic tosses Danko's cigarette out window, stating that his habit will kill him. She then shape shifts back to Sylar. He and Danko agree that their collaboration will be more "convenient" if everyone believes that Sylar is dead. Danko reminds Sylar that if the two succeed with their plans to exterminate all evolved humans, Sylar will be the only one remaining. Sylar replies, "Funny how that works."

Turn and Face the Strange

Sylar, in the shape shifting disguise of Danko, talks to Noah Bennet about the body of "Sylar", which is in fact James Martin. He jokes that Noah was never able to catch Sylar and suggests that he never really wanted to. Noah is then told that Sandra has arrived, and Sylar says to send her up. After hearing Noah tell Sandra that something doesn't feel right about the body, Sylar greets Sandra and shakes her hand, telling her he's seen her before. He then walks into a bathroom, locks the door, and greets the actual Danko, who is perturbed by Sylar masquerading as him, although Sylar seems to enjoy being able to command respect. Sylar shifts back into his original form, and states that he plans on destroying Noah's life.

Next, Sylar takes the form of Sandra Bennet, and goes to Noah's apartment to serve him with divorce papers. While doing so, "Sandra" breaks Noah's heart by telling him that she no longer loves or respects him. Sylar then leaves and resumes his own form in an alleyway outside.

Noah later realizes that the signature on the divorce papers does not match Sandra's, and receives DNA results that identify the body of "Sylar" as James Martin. Noah figures out Sylar must be working with Danko, and forces Danko to tell him about his current disguise. Noah then brings Danko with him as he meets Sylar who has taken the form of Agent Donner, the leader of Team 6. Noah shoots him in the back, but when the wounded body does not heal, Noah makes the team drop their weapons and runs off.

Danko stays with the body, which heals and shape-shifts back into Sylar's own form. Sylar spits out the bullet and is angry that Danko could have gotten him killed. Danko tells Sylar he had no idea he could bleed so much, and Sylar says the bleeding was all for show.

1961

A disguised Sylar, acting as Senator Nathan Petrelli, has a televised press conference calling for change in the White House. His true identity is confirmed by Noah Bennet to the Petrellis while they sit in a cafe at Coyote Sands.

I Am Sylar

Eighteen hours before the press conference as Nathan, a man wakes up in a bed, looking confused and mutters "not again." He heads towards a mirror and examines himself before changing back into Sylar. Sylar is stunned as he reaches into his mouth and extracts an extra tooth.

Outside of Building 26, Sylar is sitting on a park bench as Danko walks up and informs him that he was caught on a security traffic camera. Sylar confesses that he's having problems with his new power, his eyes having stayed blue for over an hour and not his natural brown. Danko gives him an ultimatum, saying that he can either work for Danko and live freely as Agent Taub or be hunted as Sylar. Danko starts to leave, but Sylar changes into his fake identity. Danko is pleased and heads back to work. Sylar uses his telekinesis to carve the words "I AM SYLAR" into his arm. He watches as it heals.

Sylar breaks into Tom's house and heads down a hallway. Tom Miller is in his house when he receives a text message from Rebel warning him to run. Sylar takes a sip from Tom's drink, alerting the man to his presence. Tom mistakenly believes Sylar is Rebel. Sylar reveals there are agents coming to capture him and has Tom show him his ability. Sylar thinks the power is fun, but Tom argues. Sylar gives Tom a choice: him or Danko. When Tom chooses him, he proceeds to kill Tom. Danko and his agents then rush the house, with Agent Taub. They discover Tom's body and the words "I AM SYLAR" written in blood on the wall. Taub makes a comment about the ego of the killer.

Sylar waits in Danko's office, visibly uncomfortable. Danko joins him, confused. Sylar explains that he is feeling lost and confused. Danko admits that he suffers the same problems and advises Sylar to find an anchor to remind him of who he is. He shows Sylar a watch that his father gave him as an example. Sylar takes the watch and examines it. He informs Danko that it's running fast, prompting Danko to ask where he got that power. Sylar sadly tells him it's the only one that's truly his.

At Agent Taub's apartment, a police officer delivers a box containing evidence from the Virginia Gray unsolved murder. Disguised as Agent Taub, Sylar accepts it and closes the door as the officer tries to ask him about it. He takes from the package his mother's sweater. He then sees the France snow globe and remembers stabbing his mother. Angry, he throws it against the wall, but Virginia suddenly appears and comments it was her favorite. Sylar tells his mother about his feelings and emotions, but is interrupted by a knock on the door. A surprised Virginia changes back into Sylar, who is confused about what just happened. He answers the door and Danko informs him that they've cornered Rebel. He wants "Agent Taub" to join them.

Danko's team, including Taub, arrive at a building where Rebel is hiding in. Danko leads his team forward, but Taub hangs back. He changes back into Sylar and disappears before Agent Harper can see him. Sylar goes inside and is shocked that Rebel is Micah, a child. Micah tells Sylar that he knows who he is; Sylar uses clairsentience on Micah's phone to learn about who Micah is. Micah informs him that he can help him, that Sylar can be a hero. A few moments later, Micah is running as Danko's team pursues him. He gets shot off a pier as the real Micah watches from his hiding spot. After the rest of the team leaves, Danko stares into the water where "Rebel" fell. Sylar comes up beside him and Danko asks why he didn't take Rebel's ability. Sylar tells him talking to machines would be overkill. Danko doubts Micah is dead, but Sylar points out that Micah was mortal.

Back in Agent Taub's apartment, Micah wakes up to find Sylar arguing with himself as his mother. Sylar regrets bringing Micah there and tells him to leave. Micah tries to offer help, but Sylar threatens to kill him the next time he sees him. After this, Sylar goes to Nathan Petrelli's office, where he again holds a conversation with his mother. Sylar gets annoyed that Nathan's had everything handed to him, but when Virginia tries to boost his morale, Sylar admits that she made him feel small and he wanted her dead. Virginia states that it was then he lost himself. Virginia tells him he can be president as he searches through Nathan's stuff. She gives him a toothbrush, from which he extracts DNA and changes into Nathan.

He holds his press conference, which Nathan, Angela, Peter, Claire, and Noah watch in Coyote Sands Cafe. Noah reveals Sylar's new power, and Nathan flies off to stop him from becoming the president.

Nathan arrives and searches through his office. Sylar surprises him and reveals that he's been using clairsentience to read all about Nathan. He tells Nathan he will be president and proceeds to slice off his head. Nathan suddenly collapses and Sylar finds Danko standing in the doorway. Danko tases Nathan again and tells Sylar to change into Taub. Sylar freshens up, but doesn't change into Taub. As Sylar reveals to Danko that he's not going to follow orders, Danko stabs him in the back of the head with his knife. Danko calls a clean-up crew, but Sylar stands up, prompting Danko to cancel the order. Sylar then pulls the knife out of his head, commenting that it hurt.

An Invisible Thread

After Danko discovers that his attempt to kill Sylar failed, Sylar explains why: using his shape shifting, Sylar moved the weak spot. Sylar pins Danko to the wall and shifts to his appearance, and proceeds to kill some agents. Quickly changing back to Agent Taub, Sylar frames Danko for the murder, forcing Danko's own men to imprison him.

Claire shows up in Nathan's office, and finds shifted Sylar who looks like Nathan. Claire is wary if he's really Nathan, and Sylar convinces her by touching her necklace and mentioning their trip to Mexico. Sylar then brings Claire to the place where the president is making a speech, and reveals his true identity once they are in their suite. While waiting to meet the President, Sylar uses telekinesis to force Claire to pour two glasses of wine. He says that as both of them will live forever and have a lot in common, perhaps she will eventually come to love him, but Claire swears she will try to kill him every day of her life. Sylar is attacked by Nathan and Peter, and Peter manages to absorb at least one of his abilities. Sylar throws Nathan into another room, then slits his throat, killing him. Peter and Claire, however, do not see this. He shifts into Nathan, then later Liam Samuels, and enters the President's limo. He reaches out to shake the President's hand, but is confused as he shifts through various forms and finally into his original body. The President is actually Peter, who injects Sylar with a powerful tranquilizer.

Sylar's existing memories were blocked by Matt Parkman, who then used his ability to make Sylar believe he's Nathan Petrelli, with the memories Sylar had acquired about Nathan filling in the gaps. Sylar then takes Nathan's form. Later, while watching "Sylar" burn on a pyre, he tells Noah that the President has agreed to provide funding, resources, and deniability for a new version of the Company, and implies Noah will head it. Six weeks later, Angela walks into the room and discusses some things with Nathan. Blankly, he stands up and starts to walk out with Angela but stops and notices a clock is running a minute and a half too fast. He turns the dial back and, now satisfied, grabs his coat and walks out. As Nathan inquires where his mother would like to eat lunch, she doesn't respond, simply staring at the clock.

The Agent

In chapter 9 of The Agent, Sylar walks past Danko's office while shape shifted as Danko. Danko's assistant, Bob, calls for Danko, and he shakes his head and tells Bob that he can't be bothered now. Bob then informs him of Danko's meeting with Agent Mills and Internal Affairs, and he asks Rachel if she is Agent Mills.

When Rachel acknowledges that she is, Sylar smiles and invites her into Danko's office after checking his watch. Proceeding inside, he reaches out a hand to guide her into a chair. Next, while still using Danko's form, Sylar asks Rachel how a girl like her wound up in a place like this, and if she would be free that night for a drink.

However, Rachel ignores the drink offer and gets him to agree to allow Dan from Internal Affairs to join them. Sylar checks his watch again, and a short while later, Dan arrives with two security agent. He listens as Dan interrogates Rachel, placing his hand on a thick file that Dan drops on the corner of his desk but not opening it. Then, he interrupts Dan's questioning, asking them both to leave. When Dan responds by asking Sylar to repeat himself, Sylar tells Dan to stop picking on Rachel and to get out of his office, adding that he has somewhere to be. Dan then replies that they have discussed the substantial evidence, tapping on the thick file; but Sylar points out that the file is just a bunch of old requisition forms. As Dan flushes that his bluff was called out, Sylar asks them to excuse him as he has to see a man about a corpse and leaves.

Arthur revealed to Sylar that he can obtain the abilities of other people without killing them through empathy. Arthur left Sylar in a room with Elle, with whom he had a long talk, after which Sylar manifested her ability. It is unknown whether this manifestation was related to empathic mimicry or if it was purely empathy.

With this ability comes a 'hunger' for more knowledge and power. Sylar believes that it is this hunger that drives him to murder others and steal their powers. In one future, Sylar is able to control this 'hunger' and settle down to a normal life.

According to his assignment tracker file at primatechpaper.com, Sylar's control index is 76%. His data analysis shows his biological level at 40, cerebral at 85, elemental at 45, and temporal/spatial at 20.

During their conversation, Sylar and Noah confirmed that Sylar has multiple abilities (Fallout); however, apart from telekinesis, the Company was unable to identify what these powers were (Godsend). Based on Mohinder's statement to the authorities (Fallout) that at least six people from his father's list have been murdered by Sylar (prior to Zane Taylor), it's likely that Sylar had acquired at least ten abilities before he was infected with the Shanti virus in Kindred: the six Mohinder mentioned, plus four he acquired after Mohinder made his statement.

While he was infected, he attempted to take an ability from Candice Wilmer, but he was unable to use it. In an interview, the writers confirmed that Sylar was unable to acquire this ability while infected.

After he cured himself of the virus (Powerless) he was once again able to use his innate ability in addition to the ability he had acquired from Brian Davis, which he retained due to his guilt over killing Brian [1]. He was not, however, able to use the other abilities he acquired before his infection (confirmed here).

He has acquired several new abilities since curing himself of the virus and continues to acquire more, although he now seems to pursue them less obsessively..

He inherited intuitive aptitude from his father, Samson Gray.

Poderes Adquiridos

Sylar ha adquirido un gran número de poderes. En orden, Sylar ha adquirido:

Sylar mató a Echo DeMille, arrancó el brazo metálico de Danny Pine, y noqueó a Eric Doyle en (Dual), pero aún no se sabe si él tomó sus habilidades; Doyle está vivo aún, el cuerpo de Echo no mostraba ninguna señal de remoción de cerebro, y el cuerpo de Danny aún está perdido. La habilidad de Echo es la misma que la de Jesse Murphy, la cual Sylar ya había tomado.

Telekinesis es el poder adquirido que mas comunmente se puede observar en Sylar. Antes de su infección, el utilizaba frecuentemente el congelamiento como una habilidad ofensiva secundaria y el oído mejorado también. Desde que se recuperó del virus y adquirió sus habilidades, usa más seguido sus habilidades pasivas de detección de mentiras y regeneración celular acelerada, y también parece favorecer el uso de la manipulación eléctrica y el cambio de apariencia. Ha demostrado la habilidad de utilizar al menos dos de sus poderes adquiridos al mismo tiempo (The Hard Part).

Posiblemente debido a su Aptitud intuitiva, el control de Sylar sobre una habilidad adquirida es usualmente superior al de la persona de la que lo obtuvo.

Notes

• Clips from the missing episodes on the Season Two DVD show that once Sylar got his powers back he went back to killing and acquiring powers. In the episode, Elle tells her father that Sylar has acquired four new powers, though we see only two of the thefts take place: he steals the abilities of impenetrable skin from a character named Robert Keep and dynamic camouflage from a character called "Chameleon Girl".
• In an interview, Tim Kring responded to the question "Are Sylar and Claire's father connected?" by saying "There is a connection between the two, which will become clear in later episodes."
• Kristin Veitch of E! indicates that Sylar's character "is the opposite of what you'd think it would be."
• In an interview with Wizard Magazine, Tim Kring states "Sylar's storyline is much cleaner line than a lot of people think. He's literally just a character who wanted to be special and he gets kind of f--ked up and becomes a serial killer. That's all it is."
• When the apparently dead Sylar revives in The Fix and in "The Kindness of Strangers", the familiar "tick-tock" can be heard, perhaps implying he has used his power.
• The fact that Sylar survived being shot (by Matt and by Mr. Bennet) and that he walked away from a serious fall at Homecoming led to speculation that he possessed some kind of superhuman endurance. However, Aron Coleite and Joe Pokaski stated in an interview that much of Sylar's apparent invulnerability is a product of his telekinesis. Sylar's resistance to bullets was specifically shown to be a specialized use of telekinesis in Parasite.
• Sylar seems able to levitate himself somehow. He seemingly did this to elude capture (One Giant Leap) and to approach Dale Smither without her hearing any sound of footsteps (Unexpected). He also escapes Virginia Beach police by propelling himself into a tree (Road Kill). Jason Badower stated that the script for Road Kill specifically states that Sylar uses telekinesis to escape the crashing Northeast Brewing Company truck. Whether or not the other instances are also a specialized use of his telekinesis is unclear.
• Sylar introduces himself to the trucker as "Drew O'Grady", apparently taking the alias from two headlines in a newspaper he had seen shortly before meeting the trucker. The headlines read, "President drew fire for welfare comments" and "O'Grady Farm to be purchased back..." (Road Kill). This is in keeping with the way he acquired the "Sylar" alias, taking the name from a watch as he meets Brian Davis (Six Months Ago).
• In an interview, Aron Coleite and Joe Pokaski explain that, although unusual vocal effects were used for both Sylar (Distractions) and Peter Petrelli (Unexpected), both were for "coolness factor", and were not an indication that either was using persuasion. They later reiterated the point in reference to Sylar's voice in .07%.
• The address Mohinder discovers for Sylar in his father's journal is 1146 Trenton Place APT 1B, Queens, NY 11011. (One Giant Leap)
• In an interview, Zachary Quinto said he purposely chooses to take on the characteristics of Sylar's victims. "[Distractions] was the genesis and then it continued for me as an actor to draw on the characteristics of the other characters that I was killing. There were choices I made in scenes to bring echoes of those characters to what I was doing."

Trivia

• Marvel Studios Mutant X TV series had a character named Gabriel Ashlock or Patient Zero, similar to Heroes' Gabriel Gray/Patient Zero. Ashlocke was considered the most powerful of new mutants as he had the combined abilities of all four classes: Elemental, Feral, Molecular and Psionic while Sylar is the first mutant the Company finds with more than one ability. We later find out that he even killed both his parents (Sylar kills his mother). Also, Ashlocke was a mutant Adam Kane expiremented on whereas Sylar is a mutant the Company, founded under Adam Monroe, expiremented on.
  • This isn't the only reference to the series as an actress on the show is named Victoria Pratt.
• A photograph on NBC's Heroes site shows a birth announcement for a "Paul E. Sylar", dated June 11, 1962. The announcement appears to be pinned next to the map in Chandra Suresh's Brooklyn apartment. However, the casting of 29 year-old Zachary Quinto seems contrary to this information, as does the revelation that "Sylar" is an assumed name. In all likelihood, since the announcement only ever appeared clearly in promotional photos, the character concept has changed since the original announcement was designed and there is no "Paul E. Sylar." This is a remnant from the original cut of the pilot episode (In His Own Image). In that version, the conversation on the Sylar tape can be heard, but it is a conversation between Chandra and Paul E. Sylar.
• The role of Sylar was originally offered to Christopher Eccleston. He declined the role because he thought it was a cliché for European actors to play villains in American culture.
• In the first draft of the pilot, Sylar was supposed to appear in an Italian prison. According to Greg Beeman's blog, this version of Sylar was supposed to have long claw-like nails and sharp teeth. He was also supposed to be "way weirder and more monstrous — like Nosferatou."
• Ando tells Peter that Sylar is like okage which he translates as "boogeyman" (Homecoming). Molly Walker also refers to Sylar as "the boogeyman" (The Hard Part).
• Sylar taking his name from a watch mirrors one theory regarding the Zodiac Killer who killed several people in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 60s. One suspect was allegedly given a "Zodiac" brand watch that had the same logo (a crossed circle) that the killer used to sign his letters. Also of note, before one alleged victim died, she was followed by a suspicious man wearing horn-rimmed glasses.
• Before the airing of Six Months Ago, the theory that Sylar is Peter had become so stale at 9th Wonders, the semi-official Heroes fansite, that it has inspired a drinking game: whenever someone brings it up, drink.
• At the end of Powerless, when Sylar regains his powers, the first thing he grabs with telekinesis is a can of spinach. This is a joke by the writers relating to Popeye the Sailor, who gains his "ability", strength, after eating spinach. ^[2]
• According to his case file (password: GGeh81zu) at primatechpaper.com, Gabriel Gray weighs 150 pounds.
• "Sylar" is a German surname that literally means "ropemaker." [3]
